Sarah Connor chronicles goes overseas

SF Universe – Fox is working hard to make sure that everyone gets to see their new series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (my kingdom for a shorter title!).  First they premiered the pilot online for 24 hours, next there will be a fabulous premiere and party at the ArcLight Cinerama Dome in Hollywood on Jan. 9 and then the show will have a two night premiere on Fox.

Now the series is reaching out far and wide to connect with even more fans!

In an unprecedented move, Fox and Warner Bros have joined with the American Forces Network to bring Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles to the troops! Normally, our American fighting forces have to wait months to see the latest in US TV, but not this time.  The pilot episode of the series will air on AFNprime, Monday, January 14, just hours after the US network premiere of the series.  To make this event a real party, AFN will also air all three Terminator movies on either side of the show’s premiere.  (The TV series takes place between movies 2 and 3.)

Stateside, Fox and Verizon invite you to Get Terminated!  The Chronicles bus will be touring the US from January 9 to January 30 making stops in dozens of cities including New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, Dallas, Washington D.C., Phoenix, St. Louis, San Diego and Charlotte. Terminator street teams will distribute branded premium items and invite fans aboard the bus to Get Terminated by filming an action scene opposite a Terminator in front of a green screen. The completed video clip will be sent to the fans email and/or Verizon Wireless phone, where it will then be available to share with friends and family, and to post on social-networking sites like MySpace.

Verizon V CAST subscribers will also have access to specially-produced Chronicles videos, wallpapers and ringtones which can be unlocked using a code word delivered each week on the TV series.

Summer Glau Takes on a Mammoth. . . Mammoth!

Posted in movies & series, sci-fi with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 5, 2008 by ph1at1ine

SF Universe – Though it sounds like some wacked out Discovery Channel version of Celebrity Deathmatch, it’s actually a SCI FI Channel original movie that hits DVD this week.

Mammoth (bet they stayed up all night thinking of that title) stars Firefly’s Summer Glau as “Jack” (yes really) the fiesty daughter of the only man alive who can save the world from this reanimated beast.

You know how it goes, meteor smashes into a Pleistocene museum, giving life to a frozen, 40,000-year-old mammoth who is pissed as hell and not going to take it anymore. Said mammoth goes on rampage and who will stop it?

Special Agents Powers (Leila Arcieri) and Whitaker (Marcus Lyle Brown) are given 17 hours to kill the mammoth (17? You couldn’t make that a full 24?) or else the entire town will be decimated.

The agents recruit local paleontologist Dr. Frank Abernathy (Vincent Ventresca) to help them hunt down the creature with the aid of his daughter and his (get this) “B-movie-fanatic father”, Simon (Tom Skerritt).

There’s a whole lot of stomping going on as the digital beast wrecks havoc and that’s not to mention what he does to the town!

Let the rampage begin!

“You can’t release this movie! I have a career now! I’m starring in the new Terminator TV Show! I’ll get you for this SCI Fi!!!”

Star Trek Tour in California

Posted in sci-fi, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on December 9, 2007 by ph1at1ine

SF Universe – If you’re even mildly into Star Trek, this is one exhibit you won’t want to miss. The traveling Star Trek Tour from Creation is a one-of-a-kind experience that really takes you into the Trek world. Sets, props, motion-simulation rides — this is like visiting a Star Trek Theme Park. Here’s what Creation has to say:

To our fellow Star Trek fans:

We’ve very happy to share the announcement of the upcoming STAR TREK: THE TOUR, a 50,000 square foot traveling interactive exhibit of Star Trek sets, props, models, motion-simulator rides and more from all five Trek series and all ten Trek films. The tour will visit 40 cities around the country, kicking off in Long Beach California on January 18th, 2008.

Creation will be represented with our line of autographed collectibles in the sales boutique and we’ll also be helping to coordinate celebrity appearances along the way. We hope to see a lot of friendly faces of folks that have attended our conventions in the past at the various tour stops.

Past Creation guests have helped to put together the tour including production designer Herman Zimmerman, costume designer Robert Blackman and make-up genius Michael Westmore. Gene’s son Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry provides some narration for the exhibits and Creation’s good friend, the one and only William Shatner, is serving as the official ambassador of the tour.

Highlights of STAR TREK THE TOUR include:

Detailed recreations of original sets from Star Trek: The Next Generation, including Captain Picard’s quarters, Dr. Crusher’s sick bay and the majestic NCC-1701-D Bridge.

st_tour_floorplan.jpgThe chance to take a ride through a Star Trek adventure in four full-motion, show-based flight simulators.

An all-new multimedia Encounter Theater, built like a theater in the round with 360 degree video screens. Computer-generated sequences put visitors in the middle of the Star Trek action.

The opportunity for exhibit-goers to sit on a full-size Enterprise bridge from the original TV series and have their photo taken and superimposed with an image of the original cast – including Spock, McCoy and Scotty – to look as if the Enterprise crew is standing right next to them.

The ability for guests to star with the original cast in an episode of their choice and watch themselves interact with Star Trek icons such as Spock and Scotty. Guests can take home a DVD of their cameo to share with family and friends.

Tickets & Pricing

Tickets to STAR TREK THE TOUR will go on sale on December 7th during an exclusive 7-day pre-sale offer for American Express Cardholders.
